Counselling and Coaching Services

Children / Adolescents

In my work with children and young people I may initially invite the parent(s)/guardian(s) into part or all of the first session. This helps me to carry out an assessment which involves history taking and an exploration of current issues. Therapy works best with young people when it is a collaborative process. It is vital for effective therapy to take place that the young persons right to confidentiality is also respected.

More information on counselling children and young people can be found here.

Adults

After our first contact and assessment we may begin working together should that be your wish.  At our first session we will discuss your presenting issues and what may be causing you distress.  We will look at which issues you would like to work on and will explore together what you hope to achieve from counselling. Our work together may be short or long term dependent on your needs.  We would normally meet weekly and regularly review our work together.

Couples

Sessions are weekly for one hour. The initial session incorporates an assessment and is therefore for 90 minutes. You, as the couple are my ‘client’. We will work together to explore your relationship problems including communication issues, arguments and conflict, affairs and sexual difficulties. I may see both partners in the relationship for one session separately but will not hold ‘secrets’. I also work with couples who are considering separation or divorce and want to work things out as amicably as possible for themselves or their children.

More information on counselling couples can be found here.

Therapeutic coaching

Coaching is more directive and the work is brief, intensive and short term.  The first session is 90 minutes and hourly from thereon. Five to six sessions are usually required.

More information on therapeutic coaching can be found here.

Online or telephone counselling

Even without the current Coronavirus restrictions on face to face therapy, there are many factors as to why receiving therapy through another communication channel may be more appropriate for you.

Online and telephone counselling offers the same level of support and confidentiality as face to face sessions.  It can also offer other solutions to some concerns clients may have with receiving help in traditional therapeutic settings. It can be a very convenient means of receiving support from the comfort of your own home or wherever you may be.

What is online counselling / therapeutic coaching?

Online counselling/coaching is any form of counselling that is conducted over the internet. This could be via an exchange of e mails but is often through video messaging over Zoom or Skype. (Both are free to download).  Both platforms allow clients to get professional and confidential support if a traditional face to face setting, for whatever reason does not suit your needs.

If you are interested in online sessions I would send you a client online therapy information sheet before our sessions commence to hopefully answer any questions you may have.  I am also happy to speak on the phone about online therapy sessions.
